Court rules and etiquette
Short version: turn up on time, leave on time, and be kind to the people waiting.
Booking
- Your court is yours for the time you booked. Play stops at the end time so the next booking can start punctually.
- Cancel or move your booking free of charge up to 2 hours before it starts, using the link in your confirmation. After that, please call us so we can offer the court to someone else.
- Up to 2 upcoming bookings per phone number. It keeps courts available rather than held.
- Repeated no-shows without a call may mean we ask you to book by phone in future. We would much rather you cancelled - it costs you nothing.
- Nothing is charged online. Pay at the desk when you arrive, by cash, GCash or Maya.
On court
- Non-marking court shoes only. Running shoes and anything with a dark sole damage the surface.
- Water only on court. Food, sports drinks and anything sticky stay off the playing surface.
- Call the score before each serve. It sounds formal, and it prevents almost every argument.
- If a ball comes onto your court, call "ball on" and stop the rally. Return balls by rolling them, not hitting them.
- Walk behind courts in play, and wait for a rally to finish before crossing.
- Keep the noise reasonable. It is a recreational venue in a neighbourhood.
If you are new
- Pickleball takes about ten minutes to learn. Loan paddles and balls are available at the desk, so you do not need to buy anything to try it.
- Doubles is how most recreational play is organised - four people, one court. Two works fine for singles.
- The kitchen is the seven-foot zone either side of the net. You may not volley while standing in it. That is the one rule that surprises everyone.
- Serve underhand, diagonally, and let it bounce once on each side before anyone volleys. The rest you can pick up as you go.
Safety
- Warm up before you play. Pickleball involves more sudden stopping than it looks like it does.
- Tell staff about any injury or hazard - a wet patch, a loose net, a crack in the surface - straight away.
- Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult.
- Play stops in lightning or heavy rain. If we call it off, your booking is moved or refunded, whichever you prefer.
